What Comes Next?
1,000 Adventures.
For most of my adult life, I knew what I was building.
I was raising a family, establishing a career, helping build a family business and creating the home we wanted. There was always another goal ahead.
Then, slowly, that changed.
Our children were grown. The house was finished and paid for. Our business had a succession plan. Retirement was no longer some distant idea.
I had built the life I wanted. But I needed something to look forward to.
Not a quieter life. Not a life organized around maintaining what we already had. I wanted the years ahead to feel expansive. I wanted to remain curious, brave and fully engaged with the world.
Then two words came to me:
1,000 Adventures
Why 1000? If I’m lucky, and remain healthy into my early 80s, that means I have about 1000 weeks left here on our beautiful earth. An opportunity for 1000 more adventures. So, at first, the 1000 was a list— and a promise to myself that I would not let the next chapter become smaller and less exciting than the ones before it.
I committed to it. And as I began doing new things, I noticed something. Adventure was changing me. It made me more courageous. More curious. More confident meeting new people, and I was becoming more willing try things and enter places where I did not quite know what I was doing or if I belonged.
I began to see that adventure is more than escape or entertainment. Chosen intentionally, it can be a way to keep growing.
That idea grew into The 1000 Adventure Project: an Adventure Compass to help you see where you are ready to grow, a library of experiences to help you begin, and a community of people willing to step beyond routine together.
An adventure does not have to be dangerous, expensive or far from home.
It only has to take you somewhere new—out in the world or within yourself.
I built the project because I want to make the most of the years ahead, and help others do the same.
