Gettysburg at Halloween - Oct 2025

Halloween always brings out my dark and creative side — any excuse to put on a costume and slip into another character and world for a little while. This year, I decided to take that spirit on the road with a Halloween trip to Gettysburg, meeting up with my son, his wife, and family friends. With its historic charm, haunted lore, and crisp but sunny fall weather, it turned out to be the perfect place to celebrate the season.

There’s something magical about walking through Gettysburg on Halloween weekend. The whole town feels alive — a mix of history, mystery, and reverence. The streets were filled with people in costumes, warm lights glowing from old buildings, and piles of autumn leaves swirling around our feet. Everywhere we went, there was a sense of stepping between worlds: past and present, playful and profound.

Gettysburg is known as one of the most haunted towns in the U.S., but at Halloween the vibe isn’t tacky — it’s atmospheric. Cobblestone streets, Lantern-lit ghost tours, Cool fog in the early evening, Old brick buildings that look like they hold stories

And of course, I loved dressing up as a witch. There’s such a simple joy in putting on a costume — it unlocks a different aspect of your personality and gives the whole adventure a spark of whimsy. In a town as steeped in folklore as Gettysburg, leaning into the theatrical felt perfectly right.

We explored the local shops, enjoyed fantastic fall food, and took in the historic sites that make Gettysburg so meaningful. We also got a chance to go to a Karioke Bar and hear our friend Steve sing. He has an amazing voice and it was great to enjoy a night out with him and his dad.

Adventures don’t always have to be grand or far away — sometimes they’re simply about saying yes to the season, slipping into costume, and giving yourself permission to play.
