A Windy Weekend and a Hockey Night in Montreal
The Family at the Bell Center Hockey Lodge
We left around midday on Friday and drove north. The road was long but the weather held. By the time we reached Nuns Island the wind had picked up and stayed with us.
Guy and Linda met us at the door and helped carry the bags inside. The condo was on the fourteenth floor. You could see the water moving hard below and the city sitting back from it. Everything felt exposed to the wind.
The view from Guy’s Condo
That night Guy served pizza his chef had made earlier in the day. It was better than it needed to be. Alex and Line were there too. We stayed up longer than planned and slept where we landed.
In the morning Guy brought out fresh croissants. We ate and then walked along the bike path behind the building. The wind came straight off the water. Mila came with us and kept stopping to look back.
Later, Lynn, Linda, Alex, and I went downtown. We walked through Simons and other stores and took our time. I found a long wool coat I’d been looking for. We moved through the underground passages when the weather got sharp. We ate lunch at Time Out Market near Saint Catherine and had drinks before heading back.
Delicious Breakfast Pastries
That evening we put on Canadiens gear and drove to the Bell Centre. Guy parked underground and we went straight in. The seats were at center ice. There was a buffet and a bartender nearby. The game stayed one-sided. Montreal won four to nothing. Retired players stopped by our section and talked for a while.
Diane wasn’t there, but we called her and held the phone up so she could see the ice.
Line and Alex
Afterward we went back to the condo. The wind was still there. We slept and had breakfast together in the morning before packing up.
When we left, the water was still moving the same way it had when we arrived.
